Alison Harrop (alias Alice Mitchell) won a prestigious Betty Trask Book Award in 1985 for her first Novel ‘Instead of Eden’ which is about the lives of a grandmother, mother and daughter during the ’60s and ’70s in the North of England and was published by W H Allen. . More  than thirty years later, after a rewarding career as a medical Doctor, she released her second work ‘The Mortimer Affair – Joan de Joinville’s Story’ set in the turbulent reign of Edward II which is available from You Caxton Publications.  After many years living in Merseyside, Chester and North Wales, Alison is now retired and  has  returned  to Yorkshire.  Her work of Historical Fiction ‘The Golden Door’ is  a tale of 19th Century Immigrants to America. Whilst initially struggling to make their way  in New York, they are then embroiled in the lead up to the  Civil War along   the western frontiers of Kansas, and the Civil War battles  themselves. It  is scheduled for release by Arcanum Press in the summer of 2024.
